By 1893, when Riverside County was formed from a large section of San Diego County, the springs were not used as a resort. Instead, a farmhouse on the acerage was used by farmers when they tilled and harvested the dry farmland. Fritz Guenther originally purchased 200 acres of ranchland for $12,000 and then gradually added 300 more acres, using the 20 acres around the hot springs as the resort center. Now, Murieta Hot Springs Christian Conference Center is home to over 60 acres of beautiful property, including the natural hot springs, a lake, Roman Spa, and more.
