Calvary Chapel Bible College was founded in 1975 as a short, intensive study program. It was developed as a part of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa’s overall vision to equip the people of God for His service. Throughout its history, CCBC has remained true to its initial vision: to provide a place where serious and committed Christians can learn the Word of God and draw closer to Jesus.
The Bible College began up at Twin Peaks Christian Conference Center, the original Calvary Chapel Conference Center. Students from around the country came to attend classes taught by well-known pastors and Christian leaders. Within twenty years, CCBC outgrew the facility and Pastor Chuck Smith led Costa Mesa’s team to purchase the former Murrieta Hot Springs Resort in Murrieta, California as a site to expand CCBC and add an additional conference center.
Because of the shared property, CCBC students (as assigned by the CM199 class) assist in hosting the retreats by meeting the needs of MHS’ guests. This affords students the opportunity for practical service and enables CCBC to keep tuition at a minimal level, far below that of comparable schools.
Today, CCBC has a thriving student body. Over three hundred students are in attendance this semester in Murrieta, with another two hundred enrolled at various extension campuses around the world. Students from CCBC have gone on to become pastors, leaders, missionaries, and church planters around the world. CCBC’s ministry continues to flourish with every semester and impacts thousands of people each year.
